GENERAL INFORMATION
Since 1971, Tri-City Christian Academy has sought to offer a comprehensive and well rounded
curriculum, while integrating God's truth into individual subjects on a daily basis.
Our certified educators possess an average teaching experience of 13 years and
several have been recognized by Who's Who Among American Teachers. Kindergarten through sixth
grade are traditional, self-contained classrooms, while the upper six grades
are organized in the manner of most traditional junior/senior high schools,
with specialty teachers for the various areas of study. Maximum use is made of many
Christian textbooks which have become available, with A Beka Books,
Bob Jones University Press, Mile-High Publishers, and Saxon math in our curriculum.
LIBRARYLocated in the heart of Tri-City Christian Academy's campus is the TCA Library. Over 13,000 reference, fiction, picture books, easy reader and non-fiction books comprise the collection of approximately 70,000 volumes. All records are maintained electronically in a TCA Library database allowing the 400 plus "card-carrying" patrons to circulate an average of 450 items per month. Although Internet usage is limited, it is available for viable classroom searches. Since the periodical collection is small, high school students have access to the College's periodical library. In addition to books and the Internet, daily story times are conducted for the primary grades, providing for academic and pleasurable experiences for all in the TCA Library.SCIENCESChemistryStudents learn chemistry concepts via hands-on labs and stimulating demonstrations. Concepts include chemical reactions, scientific measurement, the structure of the atom and how its electrons affect its behavior in the periodic table, chemical names and formulas, the mole and mole conversions, stoichiometry (figuring quantities in chemical reactions), thermochemistry, the behavior of gases, acids and bases, molecular bonding, and DNA fingerprinting.Physical ScienceThrough hands-on experiments and classroom study, students learn the essentials of chemistry and physics from the forces that hold atoms together to the laws of Newton and the properties of light. The course also touches on biology, geology, and astronomyBiologyThe study of God's creation of the amazing diversity of life around us from the microscopic to the macroscopic levels. A well-equipped biology lab with high-quality microscopes, dissecting equipment, and other tools required for scientific analysis.TECHNOLOGYComputer Science 1Students learn the parts of a computer and how they work, build a PC from components, and learn how computers were invented. Students create projects using current Office applications including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Students without the ability to touch-type learn how to type rapidly without looking at the keyboard. Students also study underlying computer concepts such as the binary and hexadecimal number systems and logic gates, and create simple digital circuits in hands-on labs. Students learn to use the Internet for researching a topic, and are exposed to various multimedia programs.Computer Science 2Students review the Office applications used in Computer 1, learn desktop publishing using Microsoft Publisher, create and edit digital videos, and study databases using Microsoft Access. Students study robotics using microcontrollers and learn basic computer programming, which is applied in a real-world project such as a weather balloon launch. Students also study digital photo editing using a variety of programs, World Wide Web page design, project management, and networking fundamentals. |
