Mentoring Into Ministry

"And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also."
II Timothy 2:2

IBC exists to train those who wish to serve in a church-related ministry and is built around a philosophy of mentoring into ministry. IBC desires that students attain both the academic knowledge and spiritual character to obey II Timothy 2:2. Following biblical examples such as Elijah's mentoring Elisha and Barnabas's mentoring Paul, IBC trains leaders who will be able to train others.

Personal Mentoring

IBC wants each student to leave college with a deeper relationship with God. Individual spirituality is stressed both in the classroom and from the church pulpit. Evangelists, missionaries and pastors from all over the West speak in chapel sessions, and students attend an annual missions conference and yearly evangelistic meetings. In addition, each student develops a one-on-one relationship with a mentor experienced in ministry. This mentor provides students with valuable insight into the inner workings of their chosen ministry, and as a godly example helps students draw closer to the Lord.

Local Church Mentoring

As a ministry of Tri-City Baptist Church (TBC), IBC is ideally suited to educate students for ministry in a local church. Students receive a consistent philosophy from the pulpit, in the classroom, and during ministry. Academic knowledge alone is insufficient preparation for the real world of service. Many graduates of good colleges flounder during the first few years of their ministry because they lack experience. TBC and other local churches provide students with a variety of opportunities to gain ministry experience. Music students can be personally mentored by an experienced music pastor while serving in a children’s choir, adult choir, or playing in the church orchestra. Tri-City Christian Academy’s large enrollment allows education majors to do their observation and student teaching on campus.

Academic Mentoring

IBC offers a high quality education that is a mix of foundational theology and practical ministry know-how. Students receive one-on-one attention from a diverse faculty who are graduates of different schools within fundamentalism. Every full-time instructor has one or more graduate degrees in the field being taught. In addition, local pastors teach a class or two, giving students the unique perspective of a full-time pastor.
